In our last several devotional studies we have been studying the powerful role that Jesus Christ plays in divine healing. We have taken an intense look into two laws that affect all people. In doing that we observed the horrific effects of the law of sin and death, especially as it links to sickness and disease, and we observed God’s solution as found in the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus.

Now we must address a very serious problem concerning this that exists for many people, even good Christians, who love the Lord. The problem is that a lot of people, including many who are sick, do not fully understand the interplay between the law of sin and death and the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus. They have not learned how these laws operate and they have not learned how to cooperate with their reality. Many people do not know and understand that through Jesus Christ they can be free from the law of sin and death and its outward working of sickness and disease. They do not adequately comprehend what Romans 8:3-4 says has taken place on their behalf when God sent His own Son Jesus Christ, “in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.” The full revelation of this has not yet settled in for a lot of people.

Many Christians do not understand that the life of God, with the power to heal, has been deposited into their spirit when they were born again. They do not realize that thereafter the Holy Spirit desires to dominate their human spirit, communicate with their soul and heal their body. And worse yet, they do not recognize that although, through Jesus, they have been set free from the law of sin and death, every time they enter back into sin, they give permission for the law of sin and death to operate again in their lives preventing healing and prolonging sickness. This lack of knowledge and understanding has left countless numbers of people vulnerable to the power of sin and the works of the devil, including sickness and disease. Consequently, many people who know about God’s healing abundance are still not properly positioned to fully receive healing from Him.

Too many people, even good Christians, continue to swallow the sugar coated death capsules of sin not realizing that every sin, no matter how great or how small, in some way or another impedes the full operation of God’s power to heal and keep them well. Lack of obedience to God’s Word is one of the greatest hindrances to receiving anything from God including healing. A person’s spirit cannot fully interlock with God’s Spirit of life if sin is lodged there where it acts as a hindrance and barrier. If a person does not grasp the depth of God’s Word, they may not take the issue of obedience seriously and find themselves falling back into the sin trap with all of its destructive ramifications. We need to be careful to follow God’s Word and avoid the sin trap at all costs. It can mean the difference between sickness and healing, life and death.
