“The Law of the Spirit of Life”
E. Michal Gayer
“In Him was life.” (John 1:3)

In our last devotional study of divine healing we hit hard at the law of sin and death and observed that sickness and disease find their route origin in the works of the devil and not with God. Now let’s shift our focus away from the problem and look at God’s solution. God’s solution to the sin and sickness problem lies in His plan of redemption through which He made a way for the spiritual restoration and healing of people. There is a law in Romans 8:1-2, which countermands the law of sin and death. It is the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus. This spiritual law is the antidote for sin, which is the most lethal and deadly toxin, and it is our route to healing and wholeness.
God’s grand plan to save mankind from eternal death and to provide healing from the ravages of sickness and disease exists in His law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus. God was fully aware when He created mankind that without His kind of life imparted into the spirit of a person, that person would live eternally separated from God, under the power of the devil. God knew that His kind of life, His miracle working, everlasting, healing, Zoë life is the remedy for the devil’s control over people and the cure for all of the works of the devil, including sickness and disease.
Because of this, there sprang forth one single, rarely talked about purpose, as to why God came in the flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14). Jesus proclaims it in John 14:6 when He declared, “I am the way, the truth, and the life…” and John 1:3 declares about Jesus, “In Him was life.” In John 10:10 Jesus resolutely states His divine purpose and reason for coming to walk among men. He says, “I have come that they may have life…” The great purpose for which Jesus came was that we might be healed, sustained in this lifetime and destined to live eternally by His life imparted to us!
The “life” Jesus came to bring to people, to simple everyday men and women like you and me, the life He came to bring is God’s kind of life. It is the kind of life that God has within Himself, which He gave to His incarnate Son Jesus Christ who in turn came to manifest that life in the world. Jesus came to bring back to mankind the very life of God that was forfeited when sin entered the inmost part of man’s being and spiritual death prevailed. He came to bring the very life of God to us so that we might be possessors of God’s very own nature, substance, and being (2 Peter 1: 4).
Jesus brings God’s kind of life to everyone who will receive it from Him. In John 5:24 Jesus proclaimed, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.” 1 John 5:11-12 says, “And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.” The only way that people, who are separated from God, can be reconciled back to Him is by having their sin nature removed and replaced by the very “life” of God Himself and this comes to us through Jesus Christ. Jesus is our “Life-giver” and “Restorer.” He is also our remarkable Healer. We will delve deeper into Jesus as Healer in our next devotional teaching.
