Today we are continuing to focus on ten dynamic character qualities of God all of which support the truth that God is Jehovah-Rapha “the Lord who heals you.” In previous teachings we observed that: (1) God is Spirit, (2) He is one God in three Persons, (3) He is personal, (4) He is eternal, (5) God is omnipotent, (6) God is omniscient and (7) God is omnipresent. Now we add these final three: (8) God is love, (9) He is holy and righteous and (10) He is faithful, full of compassion and loving-kindness. 

1 John 4:7-8 records, (8) “… God is love.” This truth has much deeper meaning than most people realize. It is not only that He “has” love or “is” loving, but He actually IS LOVE. God is the source of all love. Love emanates from His nature and propels all of His actions and decisions. It is because of God’s great love for people that He gave His only begotten Son in supreme sacrifice and it is because of the great love of Jesus that He died in order that people could be set free from the bondage of the devil and reconciled back to God. This love on the part of the Father and the Son is almost inconceivable from our human perspective. God’s “Agape,” or unconditional love, continued when God gave consent for His Holy Spirit to indwell believers, who are far from perfect and who frequently grieve Him through sin. It is obvious that our loving God has taken supreme steps to anchor and secure us in His powerful, never-ending love.

From this easily flows the eternal truth that God is (9) holy and righteous. Psalm 99:9 sings out, “Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at His holy hill; for the LORD our God is holy.”  God’s nature is holy, free from sin, free from evil, free from imperfection, totally pure.  “…God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone” (James 1:14). God does not sin nor does He participate in evil. He is a most holy God, perfectly pure and perfectly right. Everything God says and does is “right.” He is the standard of truth. 

Flowing from these truths is the fact that (10) God is unfailingly faithful and trustworthy. You can trust Him. You can trust His actions and His words. Whatever God says, He will do and whenever God speaks, He backs that up with His power and ability. There is no promise that God has made that He will fail to keep.

Our devotional overview can’t even begin to reveal the depth of God’s good character; nevertheless, even this brief summary shows that our Heavenly Father possesses all of the necessary traits of being Jehovah-Rapha, the Lord who heals you. Our Heavenly Father has the answer for every sickness need. When you truly understand the awesome nature of God, you can never again doubt Him as Healer. Put these ten characteristics of God together and observe that He is the unlimited (1) Spirit Being who is (2) One God indivisible in three magnificent Persons (3) to whom we can relate in a personal manner. God (4) is eternal (5) with omnipotent power beyond our ability to think or imagine. He is (6) all-knowing, (7) always present and (8) loves from the very source of love. Our (9) righteous and faithful Father God is, above all, (10) Holy.  How could we doubt that God could not or would not heal us? God, your loving Heavenly Father truly is Jehovah-Rapha, “the Lord who heals you” (Exodus 15:26). You can trust Him. He is your Great Physician.
