“Obedience to God’s Word is Vital“
E. Michal Gayer
“.Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4)

Some very important advice is given in Ephesians 6:13-14. It wisely counsels, “Therefore take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day and having done all, to stand.” As this statement implies, there are times when a person can do nothing more except take a stand of faith based on the integrity of God and His Word. One of the most crucial ways to take a stand of faith, after having done all in obedience to God, is through one’s personal confession of God’s Word. Such a stand can mean the difference between receiving healing from God or remaining sick. God has given us His Word so that we may hear from Him and appropriate what He has for us. In the face of conflicting beliefs and difficult circumstances, God’s Word remains the way to His truth. It is our route to healing and provision; therefore, we must choose who or what we will believe. Will we believe God above all that is surrounding us or will we believe fear, other people or our own compelling doubts? Jesus said, “Have faith in God” (Mark 11:22). In absolute trust we must cling to God through difficult times and His Word, during those tumultuous moments, is our stabilizing anchor.
Jesus said as recorded in Matthew 4:4 “…Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” That is a very strong statement and a truly vital message. God’s Word is the spiritual compass we are to follow as we navigate through this life. God’s path for each one of us is carefully presented in His Word. Thank God that the Word of God has been preserved over thousands of years and is available to people even in this day and age.
God gave an amazing promise in Psalm 84:11 to those who “walk uprightly.” It simply and beautifully states, “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” What an awesome declaration. There is no good thing that God will withhold from His faithful children who walk uprightly before Him.
Obedience to God’s Word is vital. Obedience in our daily lives becomes the walk of uprightness. We must resist deceptive explanations and philosophies that lead us astray. It is our responsibility to find out from God’s Word His directions on how we are to live and then live accordingly. Reliance upon “God’s Word” is the path of faith. It is the path to healing. Stand on His Word and keep on standing until you see the salvation of the Lord!
Let us resolve to develop a strong, unshakable reliance on God’s Word and let it be the lamp to our feet and the light to our path. If we will do that, we can be assured from the Word of God that He will guide us and lead us through all of life’s challenges. There is no better way to live. There is no safer and more direct course into our very best life here on earth and into eternity.
