In our last several devotional teachings we have been studying the role of the Word of God as it relates to receiving healing. We have observed the absolute necessity of hearing from God through His written Word, the power of God to heal through His Word and the critical role the Word of God plays in developing faith, which is the required spiritual ingredient necessary in relating to God. Now something we absolutely need to understand is that when we study and understand the written Word of God, we begin to see Jesus who is the living Word. 

There is a distinct connection between Jesus and the Word of God. As a matter of fact, the first chapter of the Book of John tells us that Jesus is the Word of God. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). Jesus is the Word made alive. He is the exact representation of the Father, the fulfillment of every good thing, which God has spoken forth. 

When Jesus took on flesh and dwelt among us as the Living Word of God, He acted upon, lived out and demonstrated the will of God. He became the spokesperson for the Father here on earth and acted to enforce every word that God the Father had spoken as a promise to people. Jesus had a remarkable mission concerning the Father and the Father’s plans for humanity. The union they experienced is so complete that Jesus could say, “…The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works” (John 14:10). It is important for us to understand that everything Jesus said and did revealed God’s intent for mankind. Jesus clearly stated as recorded in John 6:38, “For I have come down from heaven not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.”

Jesus’ remarkable knowledge of the Father and perfect relationship with Him, born from complete union and accord with Him, enabled Jesus to be the absolute expression of God’s will in all that He said and did. During His ministry here on earth, part of His role was to demonstrate that “will” so very clearly that people could understand and relate to it. In addition to showing forth God’s will, one major aspect of Jesus’ function here on earth was to bring the Father’s word into total fulfillment and completion.

We can see the tremendous outworking of the Father’s plan for people through Jesus most significantly in redemption. Jesus’ sacrifice on behalf of mankind made redemption possible and opened the way to eternal salvation as well as making awesome provisions for life here on earth.  The truth of John 10:10 so carefully articulates this when Jesus said, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” The abundant life finds expression in eternal life and in life lived in the will of the Father in our here and now. At the cross, Jesus made provision for people to obtain release from the devil and all of his works. Likewise, provision was made for preservation, deliverance, healing and the total well-being for the whole man. Healing by God, therefore, is a major portion of our redemptive blessings.
