What God has to say about any subject is a serious matter for people. Beginning today and running for our next several devotional studies, we will continue our study of understanding Biblical healing by engaging in a thorough study of the Word of God and healing.” We will look closely at how the spoken and Living Word of God releases God’s healing life on behalf of people.

A good place to start is all the way back to the very beginning of time. If you are careful to do an overview of God’s “plan” for healing, you will be able to observe two doors or entranceways, which stand as milestone events in mankind’s spiritual development. The first doorway was abruptly slammed shut by God early in the history of people. It had to be closed because God is holy and just.  It was necessary for Him to expel man from the Garden of Eden and from His presence when the defilement of sin entered the very first man’s spirit. God cannot be in intimate alliance with sin. Sinful man had to be separated from God and no longer permitted direct access to Him. God took extreme action by placing “…cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life” (Genesis 3:24) thus preventing man from reentering the Garden where he had once lived in close fellowship with God.

Sin caused the spiritual separation of man from God and eventually spawned physical and moral deterioration, sickness and disease as well as physical death, but God never deserted nor abandoned His created beings in their lives of distress. When one door closed, He already had plans for ANOTHER DOOR to open!  His love was so great, that He sent His only Son Jesus Christ as that great door through which people may come to God to be saved from eternal death and destruction, the final and complete end result of sin.

Jesus announced, “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture” (John 10:9). A new doorway had swung open because Jesus, “Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness–by whose stripes you were healed” (1 Peter 2:24). In this work of redemption, God was doing a perfect work through Jesus by providing for eternal salvation, by making provision for healing from sickness and disease and by bringing the potential for complete restoration – body, soul and spirit – to mankind. Through Jesus, salvation from sin and divine healing became a living reality.

Now, it is important to understand that although Jesus is the doorway, inviting reconciliation back to God, neither salvation from sin nor divine healing is automatic. Both need to be appropriated or received. Both are received as gifts from God through Jesus Christ who has personally announced to all people, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). When Jesus proclaimed that He is the “way” to the Father, He was revealing that all of God’s blessings come from and flow through Him, the Son of God. Therefore, not only is Jesus the entrance doorway, but He is also the “way,” the “route,” the “path” that we as people of God journey upon to receive healing and life from our Heavenly Father.
