There are two Biblical truths which strongly undergird divine healing. One is stated in John 14:6 which records Jesus as saying, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” And the other is the pronouncement from God as recorded in Exodus 15:26 where God boldly and definitively states, “…I am the Lord who heals you.”  These statements reflect the awesome Biblical reality that underlies divine healing that God, our creator and sustainer is ultimately the one from whom healing flows. No one can come to Him except through Jesus, the only begotten Son of God, who Himself declares that He is the WAY through which all human beings can reach God the Father. He is the embodiment and the bearer of absolute TRUTH, which directs us to God and He is the one through whom we may experience the abundant LIFE (John 14:6).

Everything that the Bible has to say about divine healing is an elaboration on, an explanation about and an instruction based on the unmovable and unshakable reality that Jesus is the “Way.” He is our route. Until we get our spiritual facts straight concerning healing as they point to this actuality, we stand in peril of lacking God’s essential knowledge. People who miss the critical truths just stated frequently resort to quick fix healing schemes, religious formulas, and conjure up their own misconceptions, reasoning and deceptions about healing, which ultimately just do not work!

God’s healing thread weaves in and through all of the books in both Testaments of the Bible and is tied unmistakably to the fact that healing comes from God by His already specified way, according to His design. God’s predetermined way, to His truth, to His abundance of life is through His Son Jesus Christ. Divine healing depends heavily upon these important Biblical realities.

As Creator, God has a special relationship with earth and its people. Everything He accomplishes in regard to them is done from His perspective of supreme intelligence, wisdom and His own personal master plan. God is never haphazard. He is always righteous, right in all He says or does and He has a plan for everything. Psalm 33:11 instructs, “The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations.”

When Satan tempted Adam and sin spread to all mankind, God had a plan (Genesis 3:4-7). When the dominion over the people of the earth was given over to Satan because of Adam’s allegiance to Satan and rebellion against God, God had a plan (Genesis 3:9-24). When “the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually,” (Genesis 6:5) God had a plan. When sin eternally separated all mankind from God, God had a plan (John 3:16). When sickness and disease came into being as a by-product of sin, God had a plan (Exodus 15:26).

That Jesus “who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men” ever came to pass was definitely in God’s plan (Philippians 2:6-7). The fact that Jesus, “being found in appearance as a man… humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross” was likewise in God’s plan (Philippians 2:8). The fact that, “God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” is all a part of God’s great plan (Philippians 2:9-11). That “Great Plan” is the plan of salvation.

Having seen the artful and careful planning of God, we should not be surprised that He has a brilliant “plan” for the healing of our spirits, souls and bodies! That plan is masterfully woven into the very fabric of God’s plan of salvation. In our next several devotional studies we will carefully lay some critical ground work in developing an understanding of Biblical healing by placing our focus strongly on the mighty role of Jesus as our Healer. We will examine the concepts of sin and death and observe some startling facts surrounding the law of sin and death as related to healing.
