"God has Provided for Our Healing"

E. Michal Gayer

“He sent His word and healed them” (Psalm 107:20)

Today I was pondering the awesome truth that our Heavenly Father is Jehovah-Rapha, the “Lord who heals you” (Exodus 15:26). It almost takes my breath away to consider that God, who masterfully created the heavens and the earth, who maintains the delicate balance of all life and who rules over time and space is also our personal and great Physician. As amazing as it sounds, that is the profound proclamation from the Word of God. God is Jehovah-Rapha, the “Lord who heals you.”

That God, whose power and intellect created the cells that drive our bodies, the elasticity of our muscles and the strength of our bones, is eminently capable of fulfilling the length of our days is powerfully revealed in the awesome words of Exodus 23:25-26 which remind us, “You shall serve the LORD your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you. No one shall suffer miscarriage or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days.” What a wonderful message. As we live for God and serve Him, He not only blesses us but removes sickness from our inmost being and fulfills the number of our days. Another remarkable assurance of healing is found in Psalm 91:15-16 which records God saying of those who draw close to Him, “He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation.”

I know that when I feel sick, I think that being healed is about the best idea I can imagine, but consider this fact. Healing is not something man has thought up on his own nor is it a happening created by man. Healing is first and foremost God’s idea. Divine healing is the power of God driving sickness and disease from the human body and mind, bringing healing, health, restoration and wholeness. It was God’s idea to provide for healing. We don’t need to plead or beg God to consider doing it. He has already made provision and is willing to act. After all, “He sent His word and healed them” (Psalm 107:20).

Ponder this also, that what we call natural healing, or the body healing itself, is largely healing that occurs as a function of our immune system and biological processes, which God created into our bodies in the first place, for the purpose of healing and repair. Continue this further by noting that healings, which we credit to medical science, surgery, doctors and technological advances, are possible only because God has allowed the progress of scientific knowledge and skills for that purpose. Whether healing comes through an incision by a surgeon, a chemical injected into the blood stream, a pill swallowed or natural recovery, when a cell in the body is repaired, revitalized and healed, that is a phenomenon of God, the Creator, the Life-giver, the Healer.

When you are sick, there can be no greater news than the fact that God is ready, willing and able to heal. This magnificent creator God, our wondrous Heavenly Father, whose name of old is Jehovah-Rapha, is the Healer we so desperately need. You can trust Him. He is a good and able Heavenly Father. He is your Great Physician. You have His Word on the matter!
